BeLeavability: Dinosaur Ridge

Our Rating

AUTHENTIC // When in Colorado, this is surely a little authentic piece of history not to be missed. The trails do not reveal a lot of imaginative storytelling besides the information boards, and could perhaps be in need of a bit of an update in that regard. Fortunately, there are knowledgeable guides and an indoor exhibit for those interested in more information.

“Seeing actual dinosaur fossils and footprints on location makes reality set in. We’re not just talking fictional Hollywood productions here. This is the real deal! How often do you get to touch 150 million year old fossils?”

HOSPITABLE // Despite a terrible snowstorm coming in while we were visiting, the staff managed to find time to take us on the shuttle bus of Dinosaur Ridge, which turned out to be a journey through time.

“The elderly gentleman who greeted us upon arrival was such a fascinating character. Having been married to a Danish woman and having lived in South Africa, we seemed to have a great deal to talk about; I regret not taking the time to learn some more about his history.”

We were encouraged to take the shuttle bus that made stops along the way at the Dinosaur Bone Site, the Brontosaur Bulges, and the Dinosaur Tracksite. Although it was a fairly short ride, the guide was never opposed to joining us for a small hike when we were curious to explore other parts of the trail a bit further on.

“The young guide was very passionate about dinosaurs, yet had a personal approach and a very laid back way of including all the visitors in the experience. He explained everything in a very hospitable way, and even went outside with us to look at the fossils and footprints up close.”

MEMORABLE // The outdoor dinosaur trail is an interesting finding and will teach the visitors about different environments and landscapes, and how they have changed during the last 300 million years.

“Seeing fossils and footprints is an experience. Depending on what your expectations might be, it could be a bit disappointing or truly magical. I have never seen remains like these before – in Denmark or elsewhere – so to me it was a unique and memorable experience.“

IMMERSIVE // The feeling of seeing the remains; what’s actually left of history in the here and now is an impression in itself. More than 300 dinosaur footprints are preserved, and the curious understanding that it’s real and that there is more out there to be found, makes it all the more mysterious.

We BeLeave it’s possible to get lost in the immersive experience for those who bring a bit of knowledge and a good deal of imagination with them to Colorado, USA.

IF YOU #BELEAVE IN DINOSAUR RIDGE // The shuttle busses are for the visiting public on a first come first served-basis. It’s also possible to go on self guided tours of the exposed fossils and footprints. Dinosaur Ridge is located close to the Red Rocks Amphitheatre; a spectacular and natural open-air concert venue. The acoustic surroundings of Red Rocks will be hosting names like Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith and Damien Rice in 2015.
